After living in the high desert for the last decade can hardly express how many times during hot dry summer days I dreamt of running my hands through thick moss of the northwest coast. Moss is a true testament to the water-spirit, a powerful expression of its abundant existence. The expression of moisture given by the shade of old growth trees have a deep relationship with moss. By providing shade, the tree allows moisture to accumulate on the forest floor which becomes an ideal environment for moss to grow, in turn the moss provides a rich supply of nitrogen which the old growth needs to continue to survive. They each provide a delicate balance to a sacred eco-system in the rainforests of the North West Coast.
There's so much water here you can breath it in the air and viscerally wipe the moisture from your face.
Moss is truly one of my favorite expressions of water.
